SCTE: GLDS, Huawei launch joint triple-play deployment in Kenya @RapidTVNews

October 19, 2012 by Michelle Clancy |  Billing and OSS vendor Great Lakes Data Systems (GLDS) has announced at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo a completed integration between its WinCable subscriber management and billing system and Huawei’s U2000 network management system (NMS). The combined solution is being deployed for Wananchi Group in Kenya, and will offer complete service delivery control of voice, video and data services, directly from the billing system.Direct provisioning, which the billing system provides, will allow operators to manage triple-play service delivery more efficiently, eliminating the need for multiple disparate systems. This will allow operators to manage their fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks without any additional mediation or provisioning layers.

“Huawei is honored with this strategic partnership with GLDS being the very first integration of our solutions,” said Huawei Kenya Representative office CEO Wind Li. “This will help reduce operational cost significantly, allowing fast and easy deployment of the Huawei FTTx GPON solution for fixed-broadband services in Kenya, through which the customer user experience can be enhanced by up to 100mbps on fibre access networks to the home.”

“Given the importance of FTTx within traditional and new video markets, and the predominance of Huawei’s products and solutions in both, we understood the strategic importance of completing this integration,” said GLDS President Garrick Russell. “A popular choice among FTTH providers, GLDS has invested considerable resources to ensure we provide our customers with efficient, cost-effective ways of managing fibre-based service delivery, and we’re proud to be working with the world’s largest and most well-respected ICT solutions provider to expand our footprint into new markets.”
