Customers Thinking About Cord-Cutting? Here’s Why They Should Keep Cable

With a plethora of over-the-top (OTT) providers, many cable customers might be considering cutting the cord from their television services and relying on content that’s delivered via an IP network. Still, the numbers speak to the fact that not everyone is cord-cutting, and in fact, customers are no more likely today than they were three years ago to do so.If you find yourself wondering whether to stop getting cable services, consider the following:

  • Cable helps you keep up with what’s going on in the world. While OTT providers might be a perfectly acceptable substitute for you in terms of watching older television programming and movies, when it comes to breaking news, live sporting events and even new episodes of your favorite programs, cable really can’t be beat.
  • Figuring out how to replace the programs you want to see is time consuming and expensive. While subscribing to a service like Netflix might not break the bank, the streaming selection might not be the best in terms of what’s offered. Sure, you can get DVDs through the mail, but it might take a relatively long time for those DVDs to be sent if they are in high demand. If you want to catch a sporting game at a bar, it’ll likely cost you a lot by the time you get out.
  • Finding things to do to replace cable watching can be costly. Want to give up television watching altogether? You will likely find that replacing television with another hobby is rather expensive. Whether you’re going to join a gym, become an avid bowler or start attending concerts, all of these activities are costly. You might even find out that you can find new hobbies in your existing cable package, like cooking shows and classic music channels.
